Part 3 - AI apps to turbocharge your Zaps

Header image for the Solvaa blog post AI-tomation: how Zapier is AI to make automation easy. Part 3 - AI apps to turbocharge your Zaps
Welcome to the third instalment of our series on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) with Zapier. In this edition, we explore different ways Zapier supports AI, like OpenAI and ChatGPT. This blog post shows how ‘generative AI’ and automation can increase productivity and innovation. It changes how we use technology in our daily tasks.

What’s the difference between OpenAI and ChatGPT?

OpenAI and ChatGPT are sometimes used synonymously, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that they would do the same thing. OpenAI is a platform for AI where users can train and improve learning models with their own data. By contrast, ChatGPT is a specific language model created by OpenAI. The model has already been trained and is fixed. You can provide it with prompts in natural language and it will reply to you in a conversational manner. It can answer questions and perform tasks based on the prompt it’s given.

What’s the difference between the OpenAI and ChatGPT Zapier integrations?

Simply put, they’re both generative AI tools that are good at different things. OpenAI allows you to automate with a range of AI tools, and the ChatGPT integration allows you to use the newest AI models for the app.

The ChatGPT integration is best for tasks where you want to generate or summarise text. Using the ChatGPT integration, you can choose to use the most up-to-date versions of ChatGPT (“gpt-4” or “gpt-3.5-turbo”). You can use it to create a conversation, analyse text, write an email and more. The downside to using ChatGPT is that the actions are limited compared with OpenAI. To view all of the available actions for GPT, check out its Zapier integration page.

The OpenAI integration can’t use the latest ChatGPT models, but it provides more Zap options. For example, you can use OpenAI to create an image using DALL-E based on prompt. You can also translate audio or video files into English, using OpenAI’s Whisper. For ultimate flexibility, you can create custom actions for OpenAI using Zapier’s custom API requests and App extensions. To see all the actions for OpenAI, visit the Zapier integration page.

Other AI Powered apps that integrate with Zapier

While OpenAI and ChatGPT are undoubtedly the heavy hitters when it comes to AI apps, the AI market is growing fast. So, too, are the number of AI apps that you can integrate with Zapier.
There are too many apps to list them all (over 100), but they broadly fit into 4 categories:
  1. Apps that help teams develop AI tools and language models
  2. Chatbots
  3. Apps that generate new text, images or video from prompts
  4. Apps that summarise or translate existing information (e.g. text, audio, etc. )

The first two are more technical, so if that’s your thing, you can dig into them. I’m going to focus on apps that you might choose to save time in your organisation.

Jasper describes itself as Jasper is an “AI copilot for enterprise marketing teams”. You can use generative AI to create blog posts, Facebook ads, social media posts, and more. Combine this with Zapier and you could use it to create optimised YouTube descriptions whenever you upload a new video.

Browse.ai is a clever no-code tool that allows you to create bots to scrape and monitor information on websites. With the Zapier integration, you can trigger a Zap from a new ‘task’ (something you tell your bot to do) or you can create actions to run tasks.

At its simplest, Fireflies.ai is an AI-powered note-taking tool. It can summarise, make action points and analyse the sentiment of meetings. The integration with Zapier has a good range of triggers and actions. You can trigger Zaps from new notes taken, find information about a meeting or send an audio file for Fireflies to transcribe.

Summary

Zapier’s integrations with AI tools like OpenAI and ChatGPT present businesses with extraordinary potential to streamline workflows, enhance customer engagement, and foster innovation. Whether you aim to automate mundane tasks or transform your customer interactions, integrating AI-powered apps with Zapier can take your operational efficiency to the next level.
