We know we’re a little biased – but AI really can benefit everyone in one way or another.

Even if you’ve already heard “I’m not really a tech person” a hundred times, here’s the truth: your team already uses AI every single day. They just don’t call it that.

  • If they use autocorrect or predictive text, they use AI.
  • If their phone flags spam calls, they use AI.
  • If they get personalised shopping recommendations, yep – AI again.

It’s not really a choice anymore. Even if you never opted in, the world did it for you.

So instead of treating AI like something futuristic or reserved for the tech-savvy few, it’s time to show your non-technical teams that they’re already part of it – and that the next step is simply learning to use it on purpose.

In this article, we’ll look at how to turn “I’m not a tech person” into “I’ve got this” – helping non-technical teams embrace AI adoption with confidence and curiosity.

Why People Fear AI – And Why That’s Totally Normal

There’s something undeniably strange about talking to a computer that talks back. It smiles (sort of), talks (kind of), and remembers just enough to make you wonder if it’s judging your spelling mistakes. We’re hardwired to be cautious around the unfamiliar – it’s human nature, not technophobia.

Psychologists even have a name for it: the uncanny valley – that uneasy feeling when technology feels a bit too human. Researcher Dawid Ratajczyk found that even simple chatbots can trigger it, especially when they have realistic avatars or voices. In one study, people said that chatting with lifelike androids made them question what it means to be human. As Ratajczyk puts it, “maybe robots can tell us more about ourselves than about robots.”

Once teams understand what AI actually does, the fear starts to fade. It stops feeling spooky and starts feeling like a smart little helper.

At the end of the day, AI’s as autonomous as a kettle – it just sits there until you flip the switch.

Replace Fear with Curiosity

Illustration showing two people with different mindsets — one confused with a scribble thought bubble, and the other with a light bulb idea, symbolizing clarity and understanding through AI adoption.

We could list a hundred ways to help “non-techy” people get comfortable with AI – but honestly, it all comes down to one simple principle:

Slowly, slowly, catchee monkey

Start small. Encourage low-pressure experiments that feel safe, useful, and maybe even fun. Show teams simple, real-world ways AI can help – like using it to tidy up your notes or help with that ‘awkward conversation’ email you’ve been overthinking for three days. These tiny introductions are the building blocks of trust.

Focus on play and discovery, not perfection. Create a shared Slack or Teams channel where people can post their “AI wins” – prompts that worked, shortcuts they’ve found, or clever ways they’ve used tools to make work easier. When those stories start bouncing around, curiosity becomes contagious.

That’s how the shift happens: fear turns into curiosity, and curiosity turns into confidence.

Teach Trust — But Keep the Questions Coming

It’s tricky to encourage people to trust AI tools while also reminding them to question what they produce. But that’s exactly where humans shine. AI might be smart, but it still needs us – the context, the curiosity, the healthy dose of “wait, does that make sense?” Humans bring the questions and the pushback that make AI better.

And clearly, we’re not alone in feeling cautious. A global study found that 61% of people are wary about trusting AI systems – and honestly, that’s a healthy instinct.

Around daylight savings time, we’re never quite sure which clocks have updated automatically and which ones are still stubbornly an hour behind. The same principle applies to AI.

Because here’s the difference: the clock only knows it needs to tick – but humans know why the time has to change. AI can follow instructions flawlessly, but it’s people who understand the context, the nuance, and the meaning behind the data.

How Leaders Can Support Non-Technical Employees

Leaders don’t need to be AI experts – they just need to make it safe for others to explore. Set the tone by keeping things simple: skip the jargon and focus on how AI actually helps. It’s not about “leveraging data-driven workflows,” it’s about saving time, simplifying tasks, and freeing people up for more creative work.

Encourage small experiments, celebrate quick wins, and make space for a bit of trial and error. When people feel supported to play, curiosity takes over.

Make it clear that AI is a collaboration, not a replacement. It’s the Mulder to our Scully – the partnership works because both sides bring something different. AI handles the heavy lifting; we bring the healthy scepticism, the questions, and the human judgment that keep everything grounded.

And as Forbes puts it, “The integration of AI into business operations is not just an IT responsibility – it’s a leadership imperative.” Leaders who build AI confidence in their teams help create organisations that are more adaptable, curious, and innovative.

In Conclusion

The truth is, most people aren’t really a “tech person” – we’re all just clever monkeys trying to make the printer behave. But once you realise AI isn’t here to take over, it’s here to help out, things start to click.

AI’s not replacing your team – it’s joining it. It’s the colleague who never gets tired, never misses a meeting, and doesn’t mind doing the boring bits. The trick is to show everyone how to use it on purpose instead of just letting it hum quietly in the background.

Because when people see AI as a helper – fear turns into curiosity, and curiosity turns into confidence.

So here’s your challenge for the week: pick one task you find repetitive, and see how AI can make it easier. You don’t need to master it – just start exploring.

And if your team’s ready to do the same, Solvaa is a great place to start. We make AI feel approachable, practical, and even a little bit fun.
