Discover the Power of Good Prompts
1. Be Clear and Specific
- Define the Objective: Clearly state what you want to achieve or learn. For example, instead of saying, “Tell me about marketing,” try “Explain the benefits of social media marketing for small businesses.”
- Avoid Overwhelming Detail: If you want to focus on a specific aspect, mention it. Instead of asking, “Tell me about AI,” you might say, “What are the ethical concerns surrounding AI in healthcare?”
- Specify the Format: If you prefer a list, summary, or detailed explanation, let me know. For instance, “Can you list the top five causes of climate change?” is clearer than “Tell me about climate change.”
2. Set Boundaries
- Guiding Parameters: If you want the response to adhere to certain assumptions or exclude certain information, make that clear. For example, “Discuss the impacts of global warming, excluding economic factors.”
- Length and Depth: If you prefer a concise or detailed response, specify the desired length. For example, “Summarise this in three sentences” or “Please provide a detailed analysis?”
3. Be Open to Iteration
- Refine as You Go: If the initial response isn’t quite what you wanted, don’t hesitate to ask for clarifications or adjustments. You might say, “This is helpful, but can you focus more on the historical context?”

Adding ChatGPT to your business toolkit
- Create digital content – ask ChatGPT to write blogs and social media posts for you.
- Brainstorming – ask open-ended questions (e.g. “What are innovative ways to engage customers during the holiday season?”) to get the ideas flowing.
- Find trends in data – ask ChatGPT to look for trends in data to give you data-based evidence for your next move.
- Use ChatGPT to enhance scenario planning – have ChatGPT help you assess the potential outcomes of different decisions.
- Summarise information – ask ChatGPT to take a look at a webpage, blog post or email to quickly summarise it for you.
